The Ministry of Infrastructure will not prohibit the operation of aircrafts older than 20 years
15.05.2019

Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan has stated that all planes, older than 20 years old, will not fly. However, at the beginning of May 2019, the Ministry has changed its views to introduce such restrictions, but promised to strengthen market control.
The partner of Ante Law Firm Mr. Andriy Guck reminds that when the Minister introduced this idea, he clarified that the statement on the age of the aircraft was a simplification. He notes that 20 years is a simplistic understanding of some medium, after which it is difficult and expensive to maintain the airworthiness of the aircraft. After all, it is difficult to explain what is hidden behind the airworthiness indicators, which are very dependent on the technical state, conditions of operation and maintenance of the aircraft to an average passenger. At the same time, Andriy Guck states that Ukraine, as a country of the first category of aviation safety, checks the airworthiness under the same standards as in the EU.
Regarding the safety of the aircrafts, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan stated that the State Aviation Service will strengthen the control over the technical condition of aircrafts used for the carriage of passengers. Security is a priority.
